Hello Deaf Philosophy!

I know what it's like going mainstream school alone myself. I got over with it because I am happy to be involved in Deaf Culture. I realized that it is still important for me to take ASL and Deaf Studies asap because that should help me feel more better understand for who I am. I do still need to take that Deaf Studies asap but where? Do you have a list of USA's ASL and Deaf Studies from Gallaudet graduates??

I don't know if Jane is still depressed herself and still not get over with it. Seems like to me that she is still blaming herself for experiencing so alone in mainstream/hearing schools for so many years????

I don’t know if my too much English blog link:

http://resurrectionofasl.blogspot.com/

will be more helpful for any bloggers and vloggers to stay strong feel better themselves and keep more motivation to keep ASL and Deaf Studies for our future Gallaudet needs???

I find it interesting that she always mentions that she went to mainstreamed/hearing schools before there were requirements for interpreters and such. I think she is implying that these things aren't really even necessary, and that Deaf people are only insisting that they are to be a pain in the butt.

Your latest entry is the best one you've done so far! Thank you.

I'm become leery of people who use such a wide brush to cut even a wider swath. To speak in generalizations just like Dr. Fernandes did and continues to do so smacks of... stereotyping.

Those individuals become much more... complex when you take the time to talk with each one of them. We are not of one mind, but each of us comes with a plethora of experiences, insights, etc. that contribute to our Deaf community as a whole.

Anyway, I look forward to more entries from you.

This makes a lot of sense. Culturally deaf people seem to have been made the target of IKJ and JKF's fulminations and the dastardly instigators of the protest that ended their careers.

By their scapegoating, we have been forced to become apologists for culturally deaf people and to defend ourselves by saying we have always been inclusive, etc. This needs to stop.

We should never apologize for our being culturally deaf, nor being former oralists, brought up by Hearing parents, being mainstreamed, CI, and so on...but be proud of who we are and who our friends are.

Instead, we should always defend our having a say in who leads Gallaudet so that our children will be educated in a fair, open and professional atmosphere.

I am so tired of you the protesters for being smart alecs. Attacking on the same person over and over is like attacking on yourselves. Jane is not against deaf culture but these idiotic protesters who embarrassed us all.

As I understand it, she was targeting the protesters, not the 'Deaf' community, these protesters are representative of all American deaf people ? I think that is for them to state, maybe a representation of those at Gallaudet. On one hand they are claiming it's a localized qualification issue, on the other it's war... Inclusivity versus deaf culture, and the the Brutus syndrome (we've been stabbed in the back), whoa ! who STARTED the campaign ? Are inclusiveness and culture incompatible ? did anyone expect they would slink away...... ? they both had a fair old battering, they won't take it lying down ? they should have just shut up and gone ? I don't dig this outrage frankly....
